Irish design studio Orior has unveiled its latest upholstered furniture series, called Néad. Consisting of a sofa and a chair, Néad made its official debut at NYCxDESIGN in May.
Inspired by 1970s design pieces, the burnt orange sofa and chair come upholstered in wide velvet textiles. Orior craftsmen looked to the decade's conversation pits, which embodied a "nest-like" quality. The series also revisits Orior's roots in upholstery.
Pleating adds dimension to the pieces, while the elevated armchairs emulate the insular feel of conversation pits. Both the sofa and chair also feature long, rectangle-style wood and cast bronze legs.
Néad is available at the Orior flagship in SoHo and via the design firm's online store.
In other design news, AZ Factory combined leather, wood and mosaic tiling for limited-edition stools.
